Rec is a watch company based in Copenhagen, Denmark. The philosophy behind the brand is described in three words: Recover, Recycle and Reclaim. Every single REC timepiece incorporates salvaged, recycled parts from iconic vehicles that are beyond repair.
Rec watches launched in 2015 the P51 model that inspired from the classic mustangs from the 1964. In 2017 Rec planned to create a unique special edition of the P51 model. Instead of being inspired of the classic Mustangs, the watch should incarnate the essence of the Vaughn Gittin jr. race car.
The Monster Energy Nitto Tire Ford Mustang RTR was built from the ground up to compliment the Ford Mustang lifestyle with modern aggressive styling, and street tested, track-proven performance characteristics. Born and bred from traditional Japanese drift culture and influenced by European sports car style, RTR is modern, adaptive, fun, and symbolizes the next generation for the Mustang enthusiast.
While the current P-51 Collection pays tribute to the classic icon of the 60’s, the Limited Edition P-51 RTR is paying homage to the result of 50 years of Mustang evolution – in the form of Vaughn Gittin jr.’s 900hp RTR Ford Mustang. Actually, it was not until 2005 that Ford would go back to the roots of the original Mustang design.

When designing the REC RTR limited edition it was important to capture the styling and design of the RTR car. In this process Adobe Illustrator was used to create various ideas and directions. On the image under you can see the concept that was selected for production.
The P-51 RTR is without a doubt the most daring timepiece from REC yet. The green and dark orange printed hands decorates the raw carbon dial, framed by a forged carbon/aluminum bezel – both of which are recycled directly from the bodywork panels of the car. The P-51 RTR is the ultimate tribute to a true world champion and his 900hp companion.
With carbon parts taken directly from Vaughn Gittin Jr.’s insane drift monster, The P-51 RTR is capturing the DNA of the one of-a-kind RTR Mustang.
