Illustration for Rebel Girls

I did a project with Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls! It is a children's book packed with 100 bedtime stories about the life of 100 extraordinary women from the past and the present, illustrated by 60 female artists from all over the world.  I did two illustrations for the book, which are the portrait of Jessica Watson, a young sailor & Grace O'Malley, a bad-ass pirate from the 15th century.

You can find out more about the book here!

Jessica Watson is an Australian sailor who was awarded the Order of Australia Medal at the age of 16. She planned a solo non-stop and unassisted voyage. She sailed for almost a year crossing the equator of Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic and Indian Oceans all by herself!
Initial color sketches for Jessica Watson. In some cases, I sketched directly in color especially
when I've had a vivid image of the final illustration in my mind

Grace O'Malley is a well-known historical figure in 16th century Irish history, and is known as "The Sea Queen of Connacht". There is one time her half-brothers were taken captive by the English governor and she sailed to England to petition for their release. She formally presented her request to Queen Elisabeth I at her court in Greenwich Palace, and therefore both of them became best friends.
Sketches of Grace O'Malley. The left ones is the rejected sketches.
