Roaming Join Series

The series of brooches was created in collaboration between Nellie Peoples and fashion designer Alice Sutton for Fashionable Early Canberra, the spring fashion parade held at Gallery of Australian Design.

The brooches were developed from revisiting the Structure Series. The lines of the Structure Series form were replaced and translated into facets. The objects were then made by rolling a flat plan of joining ellipses into the pod-like pieces.

The collaborative concept developed from the need to push the traditional boundaries and relationships between jewellery and garment, exploring how they interact. Over three works created by Alice Sutton, the garments evolved and the brooches grew and expanded slowly, in fact, taking over the garment, all the while playing a game of concealing and revealing.
