Cirque Du Angle - Typeface Set Project
A second year University project using shape as a catalyst to design a set of typefaces based around their form in order to explore the possibilities of type within them. The opposite connotations of a circle and triangle create a refreshing composition showcasing how type can differ in style when linked with contrasting forms of shape.
Goal: to play around and develop skills within the realm of typography and explore what makes a typeface unique.
Outcome: visually pleasing and competently produced, but lacked depth to develop the fonts and use in a more applicable way, due to the fact I had so little to respond to as a brief, suffocating my ability to develop and build.
Moving Forward: when required to write another independent project brief, I must ensure that I consider a subject matter that will enable a sustainable subject brief which will allow and accommodate exploration, experimentation and realisation, ensuring the design is driven by the content.
Personal Rating: 7.5/10, for my first typographical project I am satisfied with the final outcome; it is clean, unique, and holds depth in the reasoning behind the two typefaces. I am a very meticulous worker, and that's becoming more apparent as time goes by and I begin to develop more, this means a project of this nature slotted in smoothly with my characteristics, in doing so making it an enjoyable process. It was time consuming, yet rewarding, as I didn't get distracted along the way as I knew exactly what i needed to do, it was just a matter of churning it out. Although, looking back, I should have experimented with the application of the fonts and what they could have been used for. All in all, a successful project and lots of positives to be taken forward.
