Hanno qualcosa di totemico. O di apotropaico. A seconda di come li guardi, da dove li guardi, e da quando li osservi, ti possono sembrare oggetti votivi, responsi oracolari o composizioni surreali.
Ognuno di essi ha una natura doppia e ibrida, contiene in sé il proprio opposto, la propria negazione. Non sarebbero ossimori, se no. E nella natura dell’ossimoro - come componente imprescindibile e fondante - c’è proprio la coabitazione con l’altro. La “coincidentia oppositorum”.
Duro/morbido. Fragile/massiccio. Regolare/irregolare. Scartato/riutilizzato.
Rovistando fra gli scarti della lavorazione del marmo e della pietra, e riassemblando frammenti di materiali destinati alla rottamazione, Studiopepe opera un ready made tanto suggestivo quanto misterioso. Dominato dal bianco: cioè dal colore che più di ogni altro si avvicina e si confonde con il suo opposto. Con l’assenza di colore. Un’assenza che, in questo caso, diventa davvero essenza.

They are somehow reminiscent of totems. Or perhaps apotropaic. Depending on how you look at them, or where from, and how long you have been looking at them. They can seem like votive objects, the answer from an oracle, or surreal compositions.
Each one has its own dual and hybrid nature, each contains its exact opposite, its own negation. Otherwise they would not be oxymorons. Within the very nature of the oxymoron – an essential and fundamental component – is the fact that it coexists with the “other”. The “coincidentia oppositorum”.
Hard/soft. Fragile/solid. Regular/irregular. Discarded/recycled.
Rummaging around the remnants of the marble and stone works, and reassembling fragments of materials that were destined to be discarded, Studiopepe has created a “ready made” opus that is evocative and mysterious. Dominated by white: the color that, more than any other, approaches and blends in with its opposite. With the absence of color. An absence that, in this case, becomes its true essence.
