Experimenting with Materials

My final works for Experimenting with Materials. This course involved exploring the properties of different materials, combining them to compare and contrast different qualitites.

Project 1 | Project 2 | Project 3

For the first project, I explored the limitations of plastic, drilling, melting, folding and stretching it, giving a synthetic material an organic form.
In the second project I combined plastic and concrete, concealing a bouncy ball inside. When held, the bouncy ball emphasised the contrast in materials, creating a sensory experience for the user.
For the final project I redesigned my earlier work to facilitate a motor. When activated by the 3D-printed switch, the motor turned a felt ball against the inside surface, making the material qualities come alive.
