Real luxury in the present days is the ability to indulge in an individual activity, one at a time. However, due to the need to complete tasks for deadlines and increasing numbers of stimuli in our environment, multitasking often takes place in our day-to-day activities. This division of our attention span will result in the inhibition of the depth of engagement.

This concept is elucidated when we juggle between listening to music and reading concurrently, when we perform two tasks at a time, it makes it tough to focus on either one. This phenomenon is explained by the term ‘cognitive interference’ as both the music and the book are two different set of semantic information.

Referencing Slow Design’s principle, expand, Monoread is conceived to serve as a reminder to do these tasks separately. The bookmark will perform its role to mark read pages and additionally as a temporary storage for earpieces when users are reading on their journey.
