UTAH HISTORY DAY
2019 - 2020
Utah History Day is Utah’s affiliate of the National History Day® program, and serves more than 5,000 students statewide each year. Through NHD students discover history by doing real historical research, finding and interpreting primary and secondary sources, learning to think critically, and drawing evidence-based conclusions about the past. Students then present their work in a final project that is evaluated at a series of academic competitions and winners attend the national event in Washington DC where they represent their home state.

Shirts are designed so that the students can show off where they're from and they're each given several buttons that showcase their home state that they can then trade with other students from around the country.
Each year the program has a theme but I worked with our Division of State History to decide if we wanted to use that as inspiration or make something more Utah centric. For 2019 we decided to make icons that represented our state that the kids could get excited about. We landed on the Utahraptor and Delicate Arch. The raptor was particularly popular with the students.
For 2020, the theme was Breaking Barriers and since 2020 was the centennial of the 19th Amendment, which finally allowed women the right to vote, we thought we would merge the two concepts. Especially since Utah was the home to the first woman to cast a vote. The This Is Utah design was for those adults working/aiding with the program and the Clever Girl design (a combination of 2019 and 2020) was meant for the students to wear to the national event.
