The Diary of Anne Frank - Book Cover Redesign
A student project at National Institute of Design.

The final concept had been consciously kept simple so as to draw attention to the somber yet light hearted premise of the book.
While all the windows of the ‘Secret Annex’ where Anne and her family hid, were blacked out, the attic window which overlooked a bare chestnut tree was spared. This Anne would make her way to the window everyday to contemplate their situation and life.
The shape of the blood-red chestnut flower that is shown only as a transient shadow depicts Anne’s experiences as she blossoms into a young woman while in hiding and in complete awareness of the reality outside that window.
The visual language of this design was rendered with inspiration from vintage posters in aspects of colour, texture, and typography.
