Independent Commission on Civil Aviation Noise – Branding

The Independent Commission on Civil Aviation Noise (ICCAN) is an independent body set up to advise government, regulators and the aviation industry on managing aircraft noise.

We were brought on board to create a brand that conveys impartiality and professionalism. As the organisation is not associated with government, industry or campaign groups, we had to tread carefully while still creating a brand that cut through. With this in mind, we knew that an identifiable and unfussy brand would be a sign of success.

Our approach was inspired by visual sound waves and drew on themes of communication and aircraft noise to capture the organisation’s unique remit. We created an abstract wave form based on a sound clip of a transportation plane taking off, and combined this with rounded shapes for a unified and clean look. The logo and branded materials were developed using Adobe products InDesign and Illustrator. Secondary colours, photography and flexible graphic elements ensure the brand stays fresh across print and digital materials including animation, reports and social media assets.

Management of aircraft noise has significant consequences for UK residents’ lives. The brand supports ICCAN’s efforts by conveying the organisation’s priorities, bringing flair to a complex topic, and embodying the objectives of promoting trust, responsibility and expertise.
