Slant is a asymmetrical material marriage between New Zealand Rimu hardwood and functional Accoya timber. This looks to demonstrate the material value through the geometric form, aimed at performing for the Kiwi Summer.
This design features the use of recycled Rimu hardwood for the heart of the Rimu Tree. The colour and grain of the timber is focused upon, aiming to reflect its aesthetic quality against the strength and durability of the Accoya.
Slant was shown at the end of semester Victoria University exhibition, firstly the popup expo outside St Johns Bar on the Wellington Waterfront. After that it returned to a week long standalone show at the Aro Campus exhibiting the 2012 Summer Furniture paper.
A matte black steel bar frame runs inside to contrast the slanted timber side.
The timber warms in the sun, with room for the cat, and a beer on the side, what more would you need in Summer?

Thanks to Moo and Little Grey for being great models !!
