Imlil du Maroc - Brand Identity

Imlil du Maroc
Moroccan Restaurant
Cairo, Egypt

Zellige is a popular form of art and has been in existence in Morocco for centuries. Zellige tiles were once used to decorate fountains and certain areas of a home as a symbol of money, royalty, and power. The art has been passed down from generation to and was first recorded as far back in the tenth century, and today it remains one of the most striking visual references in Morocco.

By the middle-ages, the eight-point star was widely used as a symbol in Islamic art. It is called "Khatim" or "Khatim Sulayman", the seal of the prophets, as in signet ring. Moroccan zellige artisans also refer to the eight-point star as "Sibniyyah", "Sabniyyah", which is a derivative of the number seven "Sab’ah". The eight-point star as a symbol marks early human understanding of the intelligent order that underlies our universe. Today, it carries religious and mystical associations. Known as the "Khatim", the "Seal of the Prophets" in Islamic cultures.

The letters of "Imlil" signature were created from scratch, looking for an elegant and Arabic friendly visual style, of course, maintaining the focus on readability. The typography has its terminations cut at an angle of 60º, adding lightness to the logo, and creating a sophisticated atmosphere around the brand.
