LIVING IN A CITY
competition for the concept of revitalization of the Malta Wołkowyska area in Poznań
2nd prize: Joanna Lipnicka, Dominika Ufnal, Eryk Szczepański

The concept of housing development
Malta - Wołkowyska is based primarily on a phased approach to the design issue. It is important to us first to determine the direction of space shaping, and then, over time, to enter smaller projects into the overall assumption, consistent with the main concept. Because of this, we divided the project into two stages.

1st STAGE
consisting in laying foundations for future green estates. First, we assume the establishment of pedestrian communication in existing green areas and development areas with unorganized greenery to create a legible green wedge running through the area. The wedge would include pedestrian communication and recreation. In the first stage, it is also planned to introduce multi-family housing at Baraniaka and Wołkowyska streets, so as to supplement existing building quarters with tissue corresponding to the existing scale.

STAGE II
is based on the assumption that the Malta Decor industrial area can be used in the future for residential and commercial development. The post-industrial area would be transformed first in the green. Then, due to other industrial water reservoirs, we propose to introduce a new form of industry and services, which would be hydroponic food cultivation, using water resources in this place. In the future, it would be a source of food production for the residents of the housing estate as well as a reconnaissance and entertainment element due to its educational part, which is the designed cultivation lookout tower. The tower too would be a vantage point on the Malta Lake, which is invisible to most residents of the area.
