Creative Book Cover: The Great Gatsby

Project 3: Creative Book Cover
Purpose: The main purpose of this project is to help amateur graphic designers learn how to design book covers. For this specific project we were asked to design 3 book covers that would be shown in an exhibit at the Library of Congress. I had to design 3 book covers for the book, The Great Gatsby, and one cover had to be all type. Another cover had to be physical and made by me outside of illustrator. The last cover was designers choice.
Book Cover 1: Type
I wanted to use the colors black and yellow like a taxi cab because those are popular in the book and they represent the colors of the road as well. I also had the word "Great" twisting and moving downward because the book has a lot of twists and turns throughout. It mainly is about Gatsby and Daisy.
Book Cover 2: Physical
I made this cover using construction paper and then put it in photoshop to add the title and background. I wanted the cover to represent a suit and bowtie. I used a gold color because it represents the time period well which was the 20s.
Book Cover 3: Designers Choice
I wanted to combine multiple elements into this book cover. I put the drink to represent all the parties that happened and then the glasses with tall buildings inside them to represent a major symbol in the book. I chose the color red because in the book everything was loud and bright and I thought that red represented that well.
