Possessing an extensive background in the entertainment industry, David Nicksay is the executive producer of the Warner Bros. film In the Heights, which is based on a Tony Award-winning musical starring Lin-Manuel Miranda. Focused on a bodega owner in the Washington Heights section of Manhattan, the movie that David Nicksay is facilitating is directed by Jon M. Chu, best-known for “Crazy Rich Asians.”

During an interview with Vanity Fair for an Inside the Hive episode, Chu described a pivotal decision to delay the big-screen theatrical release of the film, a larger-than-life spectacle, until June 18, 2021. A particular purpose of the movie is one of embracing community and getting people together, ideally “singing along, dancing in the aisles.” While this may not be physically possible in a COVID-19 world, the need for a sense of togetherness and unity has never been greater.

Chu also expressed excitement about the way that the film allowed him to cast young Latinx actors, including some military veterans, in roles that they would not be able to attain within more stereotype-driven films. Instead of being typecast as side characters, In the Heights allowed them to come into their own as leads in ways that will resonate in future Hollywood productions.
