This is a recipe book done in Adobe InDesign that uses type as image. A treasured food in my culture is mooncake, so that's what I made my book on. Mooncake is a dessert that has a layer of pastry wrapped around a dense filling, and often with a duck egg yolk in the center. The book tells the reader the history of mooncake, my personal connection, and a detailed recipe. In the background of each page, there is dimmed down Chinese typeface that tells certain ingredients of the mooncake. The objective of this project is to promote the use of grids and exploration of the use of type as image. In this book, the design gives off the use of the senses of sight, smell, and taste. The tan-brownish color on the front and back cover represents the outer layer of a mooncake. As the reader goes deeper into the book, the colors become more soft, just like taking each bite of a mooncake. As the reader reaches the middle of the book, it is an orange-ish color that represents the duck egg.
