TIE AND DYE WORKSHOP - Cluster development project

PROJECT GRAM - Grass Root Artisan Movement
As part of the “Grassroot Rural Artisans Movement”, a project led by Tisser with support from MSInS. Project connected with artisan clusters in 3 different locations in resource agency’s Maharashtra State Rural Livelihoods Mission.
As a part of this project under Tisser India, a handicraft and rural cluster development start-up (Mumbai based), I was sent to Andhalgaon, Bhandara district, Maharashtra for the purpose of conducting a workshop of tie and dye for the women of self help group.

OBJECTIVE OF THE VISIT
Andhalgaon, in Bhandara district, Maharashtra is one cluster under the GRAM project. There usually people are engaged in weaving of tussar silk fabric. The people are excellent in the work they do. But the fabric they produce is very expensive. So customers are taken aback at the time of purchase because of the high rates. So as to put value addition to the fabric they produce, Tisser takes this project to teach the women of SHGs, different surface techniques. One such technique is tie and dye. Tie and dye increase the value of a fabric.
We taught women different techniques of Tie and dye. And did a production of 170 scarves, which would later be kept in exhibitions and sold on the website. The women would get the wages of their work.
The tied scarves are being dyed in direct dyes.
Final results.
                                                   Thank you for watching.
