What is your excuse

This was a student project at my art college, The main objective was to promote the hair trimmer by inciting a sense of wonder among the audience by displaying images of famous personalities.
Process

I started with creating a silhouette of the main personalities, this was a challenge as i had to keep it minimal yet at same time ensure the personalities were very noticeable

The next step was to figure out how to stick hair and on which surface. Since this was student project with so many thing to do and so little time i did not evaluate the surface options in depth and just used paper as the background. In hindsight a foam-board would have been ideal as i wouldn't warp or bend as paper (seen in photo below).

Sticking artificial hair was the most toughest part of the project as i had to not only stick hair on the black silhouettes but also to capture the shape, texture, volume and density of it too. I had to refer to a lot of reference to perfectly show that.

Scanning the final outcome was also tricky as i had to play with the scanner setting to get the contrast level just right.

Final Result

Selecting the right color for the background was very crucial as it has to be fun and not disturbing. Initially i went with a light brown tone to depict skin, but after careful deliberation with my mentors and peers i decided to go with pastel colours.
