The No Food Truck: Summer 2019

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: A significant number of households in Canada rely on social assistance for food and other essentials. To raise awareness about the socially excluded, in the summer of 2019, we teamed up with United Way by hitting the road and setting up shop in a place where people enjoy their food the most: the largest food truck event in Montreal. But as opposed to ordering a meal for themselves, we invited them to order one to fill up someone else’s life instead.

The idea? The No Food Truck.

Just like a regular food truck, passersby could select and order items on the menu. Each of these items represented one of four areas of action: (The Hearty Soup: taking care of the essentials like food and shelter; The Group Salad: building caring communities; The Social Wrap: breaking social isolation and The Junior Club: supporting youth success). Each order resulted in a donation towards one of these four areas of action.

Each time an order was placed, people were served up an instant, personalized message from a real recipient.

For the foodies in the area, the truck was equipped with empty condiment and spice bottles with stats about each item on the menu. We also put out food trays relating to each donation, for people to hold up and strike a pose with.

At the end of the day, this food truck had a lot more to offer than just food.
