A photo of a recently rented barge was circulating among my SpaceX colleagues in 2016. I remember seeing it and telling a friend that landing the rocket on it would be "like throwing darts at the ocean." So I photoshopped a dartboard on it and sent it out to the team as a joke. The next day Elon held an already scheduled all-hands meeting and cycled through his deck, covering all of the major ongoings of our business. Much to my surprise, he eventually came to a slide with my image of the barge with an obviously superimposed dartboard on it. After some laughter, he declared "we're really going to paint a target on it!" Wow, cool! Later that night (much later) I was at my desk working when I received an email: "Elon says we need another design that uses less paint."
