haiku
Haiku is the title of my Interior Design bachelor thesis. It is a Japanese poetic form traditionally evoking images of the natural world, having seventeen syllables in three lines of five/seven/five. Emphasizing simplicity, intensity and essentiality it became the metaphor that drove us in the development of our project, which was focused in designing the renewal of an abandoned building in Milan. Each book is the story of a specific designed space, and it is characterized by a cover, on which different haiku have been reported as particularly significant for the project and identifiers for the nature of different spaces.

the approach to the project
Operating on the building with delicacy, care and following the “less is more” style, the focus was a design subtraction process in order to obtain maximum value. Having this concept in mind, we redevelop the building designing different kind of spaces: residential areas (private rooms for short, medium and long period stay), and “restarting” areas (small helpful shops for the neighborhood and the economic support of the building, such as a bakery, a flower and poetry shop and a greengrocery).
“le avventure di Dorothy”
Part of the project was focused in designing a living area for families with children. After writing a nursery rhyme on the Wizard of Oz, I realized a series of illustrations to show different parts of the story. Each room of the apartment is characterized by an illustration which placed on the walls, give the possibility to children to interact with it. Through the use of furnitures, illustrations are the background for some perspective games. As an example, if you look from a specific angle at the child while being on the rocking chair, he will seem to be swept away by tornado with Dorothy. Perspective games have the aim to involve children in the whole story.
