Ahn Sang-Soo

Ahn Sang-Soo is a 68 year old typographic designer who has worked as the lead art editor of multiple Korean magazines such as Ma-Dang and Meot. He has been known as “the Korean godfather of typography”. Ahn Sang-Soo won the Blue Dragon Film Award Technical Award in 1993. I like the way Ahn has made something so simple into something so interesting and eye catching. I have been inspired by the way he has made words into images also using background images to highlight the words such as using darker colours behind white wording. Each of these pieces have been thought out so that the colours compliment each other making the artwork pop and draw the attention of the audience.
Erik Spiekermann

Erik Spiekermann is a 72 year old typographic designer and writer. He is an honorary professor at the University of the Arts Bremen and ArtCenter College of Design. Erik founded the two companies MetaDesign in 1979 and FontShop in 1988 he has won multiple awards such as Gerrit Noordzij Prize, German Design Award, European Design Awards Hall of Fame,Honorary Royal Designer for Industry, Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufacturers & Commerce, London and the Lifetime achievement award from German Design Prize. I like the way Erik has made words into such interesting and crazy pieces of art although these pieces are so crazy they are extremely eye-catching as the audience want to understand what is going on in the image.
Neville Brody

Neville Brody is a 63 year old graphic designer, typographer and art director based in London. He is an alumnus of the London College of Communication and Hornsey College of Art, and is known for his work on “The Face” magazine (1981-1986), “Arena” magazine (1987-1990) as well as designing album covers for various artists such as Clock DVA, Cabaret Voltaire, The Bongos, and Depeche Mode. Neville founded the company known as Research Studios in 1994 and is one of the founding members of FontWorks. I love how simple yet complex his art is and how each piece has been made so that each image's colour scheme is so complementing and even when placed next to one another they are still easy to look at.
Paula Scher

Paula Scher is a 71 year old graphic designer, painter and art director in design. She also served as the first female principal at Pentagram, which she joined in 1991. She is best known for her recent work on large brand projects such as Citibank, Windows 8, MoMA and The Metropolitan Opera in New York. I love the way her work is so bold and bright made instinctively to catch the eyes of her audience and draw attention to her amazing pieces of art. She has been very smart with the way she uses colour in these as although they are extremely bold the colours always go well together even when there are multiple colours in one image it doesn’t hurt to look at them.
Gail Anderson

Gail Anderson is a 58 year old graphic designer, author, and educator. She is the director of design and digital media for Visual Arts Press at the School of Visual Arts, and a partner at Anderson Newton Design. Gail was known for her work at “The Rolling Stones” Magazine as the associate art director, deputy art director, and finally, the magazine’s senior art director. After working at “The Rolling Stone”, Gail joined SpotCo one of the largest entertainment design agencies in New York, and worked with a team of designers to create artwork for Broadway and institutional theater. Nowadays she is the creative director at New York’s Visual Arts Press at the School of Visual Arts, and incoming chairperson of the BFA Design and BFA Advertising departments at the College. Gail's work is very appealing because I personally find that switching up the genre of your work shows how well of a graphic designer you are because making work no where near the same as your other pieces show a lot of dedication and commitment to your job.
