Pale Robin Wheel of the Damned Packaging & Merchandise

This project for Pale Robin's 2013 album Wheel of the Damned was all about taking art out of a poster that Naali AElfigu had drawn and hand-lettered and using it to create various forms of packaging and merchandise. Pale Robin likes to use hand drawn art, but usually the art is not created for the specific packaging that it gets used for. In this case, using the hand drawn as a starting point, I created the font based on the hand-drawn lettering, and created the Pale Robin logo. I created packaging for 12" vinyl, cd, plus various patches and a lyrics sheet/poster.
Pale Robin Wheel of the Damned Album poster. This was more or less the original piece of art that the rest of the graphic design projects were created from. The art had to be resized to fit various formats, which meant altering the shape of the bow frame for each piece.
This lyrics sheet was used on the back of posters, and as the inside of the CD packaging. The lyrics are arranged in such a way as to keep the cyclical theme of the album.
Pale Robin was focused on selling vinyl and downloads, and less concerned about selling CDs. So they asked me to create some kind of CD packaging that would be simple, inexpensive, and versatile. This one sheet folds up to hold the CD, but contains all of the album info on one side, and the lyrics sheet on the other. It worked perfectly for handing out CDs at shows.
This patch design features the Pale Robin logo and a frame created from the frame of the original artwork. It was screenprinted on durable fabric of various colors.

Similarly, a local artist (whose name I unfortunately never learned) created a large drawing for Pale Robin to use as a T-shirt design. The drawing was nice, but overly detailed and the feeling that Pale Robin wanted to capture got lost in the piece. After talking it over, I edited down the original drawing to create this T-shirt design.
Pale Robin had commissioned a t-shirt design from a local artist, but were unhappy with the resulting artwork. It was large, distracting, and unfocused, showing a woman with face paint and things in her hair and a tattooed arm. Pale Robin wanted a t-shirt that showed someone blowing on a bundle of fire. I took the original artwork, got rid of all of the excess information and framed it with a border to focus attention on the fire. Pale Robin was quite pleased with the end result. It was screenprinted on cotton shirts and is available here.
