A Flower Hat Jelly painted in Acrylic in my sketchbook from reference. Although it’s not really a jellyfish, it’s a Hydrozoa, it’s dazzling fluorescent tentacles light up the black in the deep oceans around Jeju Island of South Korea. I was lucky enough to have visited around 10 years ago, I remember how the waters around the coast looked like a mysterious black ink.
Lockdown in France is as far away as anyone could be from the bottom of the Pacific but my mind is very much focused on painting the transparencies and lights of the deep. It’s good to give the watercolours a rest and experiment with old mediums. Growing up I wanted to be a marine biologist. Has your art come back full circle? .
