RECOGNISING THE PAST, LOOKING TOWARDS THE FUTURE

All through the 90s and 00s there were no rules. Businesses were allowed to put up whatever advertisement they saw fit, with no regard to the surrounding architecture and urban aesthetic. However, in the past few years change has started sweeping the streets of Polish cities, and we are happy to be a part of that change.

Drawing from extensive research and our own experience in storefront design, we crafted a very special little book. „Od strony ulicy" (“The view of a street”) is a practical guide in signage design. It highlights the relationship between architecture and signage and introduces different techniques and modes of the art.

The aim of the publication is to inform and educate about signage design. It brings back some techniques that were partly forgotten due to extensive use of plastic in the industry. The main focus is on the urban landscape of modernist Gdynia, since the publication has been developed in collaboration with the City Council. Aimed at business owners, as well as designers and advertisers it consists of a mix of concise text and simple illustration.
