A riot of colours and textures
I remember myself as a seven-year old with an uncanny tendency to hoard stationary items like pens, sketch pens, pastels etc. I didn't know why I would go out of my way to do such a thing, until now. There is nothing more entrancing than getting lost in a riot of colours and textures. I would put the characters that I imagined in a particular scene or a setting and draw them out. Few of these trials went on to inspire short stories while others ended their journey as a single illustrated piece.
"Cats on Cats": Originally drawn by hand and painted with water colours.
Orchids: Imagine a living organism living within the precincts of beautiful orchids that grow in our vicinity.
Underbrush: Made by combining different mediums such as water colours, dry pastels, charcoal and acrylic paints.
Constellation of the Ursa Major: If I ever had to design a constellation, I would do so in the way it is depicted in this illustration.
The Talisman: A gypsy woman sold a host of old and archaic talismans from the balcony of her house.
Football Grounds: A homage to my Alma Mater "The Assam Valley school" where we spent many nights star-gazing by the large football grounds.
The Black Forest: A young girl used her culinary skills in the most imaginative way to save the fast-eroding beauty of the forest.
More Fishes!: An attempt to incorporate hand-drawn details and textures into the versatile shapes.
Oceanic wonder: Paint on acrylic
My very own Pirate ship! (If I ever had one) It would be inspired by the much-loved Nessie from Lake Lochness.
Manic Mondays: What it is like to wake up on a Monday morning.
Bruschetta: A Russian-inspired character made entirely from black ink and an old paintbrush
Missionary mornings: This was a familiar sight for me each morning as I watched school children playing with multi-coloured balloons during recession.
Lean mean popsickle machine: A boy with an uncontrollable sweet-tooth lands up in Popsickle heaven
Blissfully home: made using charcoal and black ink and later colourized on Photoshop.
Tickle Tackle: Siblings go fishing carrying a large tackle box and a cat for bait.
Elderweiss pixies: Female characters inspired by mosquitoes and snails.
Oceania Park: A young girl's hair takes the shape of a large living octopus.
Waves and Gallows: An interpretation of an old Roman saying, created on canvas with black ink and markers.
