Tensi-Structural Room Divider

The Brief:

We were tasked to conceptualise, develop and create a structural/sculptural room-divider that incorporates both digital and hand fabrication and it should be free-standing.

After research was done on different infrastructure, an extensive amount of mock-ups were made from sketches. This was refined and formed into the structure that uses tensegrity forces to stay together and is also free-standing.
Here I looked at 15 different concepts that were sketched and made mock-ups to bring the ideas to life. This was a really creative and helpful phase.
The different stages of the design is shown below, going from Ideation, Development, Refinement and then, getting to the final design.
General Assembly:
Exploded view:
The renders show how the structure can be placed in a setting and at night-time, it could create a nice illumination at the edge of the garden, also serving as a divider to make sure nobody passes there.
This project was full of surprises, as we moved into a pandemic. Regardless of it, this project was enjoyable to an extent and produced some fine outcomes. My structure can stand freely and is lightweight. It acts as a source of light and reflects light of the fabric pieces.
