Human Connection, Digital Touch

This abstract sculpture above that I have made is a pit/barrel fired sculptural lamp designed to symbolize how our technology has been bringing us together during this pandemic and keeping us connected

I will admit that I did not get enough black charring on the pottery and I also overdid it with gold paint and had to get some of the black back by drybrushing black acrylic paint
Some of you might be thinking "if you threw the forms first they would be perfect and symmetrical". I coil built this in such a way that my hand marks would give it strange irregularities and then let it sag on the edge of a table because humans are not as perfect in that way as the machines we use

As a technical note to those interested in pit firing: I lost access to my bisque kiln so getting one of the copies of this to come out right was a pain. The version above is the best one that suffered the least damage although I had to do some repair work to fix where a piece of wood fell during the firing

In addition to ceramic, glass marbles, glass tiles, acrylic paint, electronics (LEDs and circuit), shredded up wires, foam base, epoxy, superglue, mortar, and shellac were used

Made in spring of 2020 during pandemic
