Arena - Podcast & Radio

ABOUT

Arena is a radio show and podcast produced by RTÉ Radio 1, which sought to establish a visual identity for recognition off RTÉ platforms and potential IRL events. This new identity was an opportunity to visually display the show with creative relevance.

Arena is a programme about arts, culture & entertainment. It has no visual elements and is broadcasted via radio and podcast platforms. Its mark should visually reflect that, but how do you visualise sound?

The word “arena” begins and ends with the letter ‘A’, it is also the most vocal letter of the word.
Wordmark has been set in capitals to emphasize the name and portray letters ‘A’ as radio towers which emit sound waves. As these waves expand they eventually collide together in the center. Each of the three wavelengths emitted from the mark represents a topic of the show (arts, culture and entertainment).
Three logo variations have been created to include responsive logo elements to the identity, each serving its own purpose.
The colour palette has been developed to give all three topics its own colour with black and white introduced for extra contrast. When a specific topic is being highlighted it can be visually represented through the creative by bringing out the colour of that topic. Colours of the palette are named after what they represent.

All typographic elements of the brand apart from the wordmark are set in 'Subjectivity'. This beautiful sans-serif typeface features multiple weights and interesting script tails. 'Subjectivity' has been designed by very talented Alex Slobzheninov.
