INTRODUCTION
This year (2020/2021) for my thesis project I choose Yacht design because I never collaborated with interior designers and I was exited by the idea
of creating an entire space from scratch following the personality of the shipowners which in this case were 5. All of them from differents nationalities: Chinese,American,Mexican,Italian and Swedish with different aims and characters. As group we choose the Swedish one cause he had
a particular imprint towards the sustainability topic, owner of a publishing house and main member of One Ocean foundation his love for nature
pushed him to desire a complete 0 emission yatch and we took it as a challenge to propose something original. As interior and product designers our aim was to create for the interiors all furnitures and elements that were completely sustainable, organics and 100%biodegradable elevating them to propose an high-end project. We worked on the yatch of SanLorenzo: the 112 sd.
From our research we found new interesting materials such as apple leather previously used by Stark x Cassina,Foresso a new type of wood
crafted from wood chips waste and orange fiber, a type of silky material created from the orange peel ecc..
From this materials we researched how them could be used in product design for the realization of furnitures, wallpapers and pavements.
In the main deck we used the apple leather for the realization of the sofa, the oak for the pavement from the native land of our Swedish ship owner which own several hectares of oaks plantations near his home in Hammarby Sjöstad near Stoccolma and the orange fiber for the silky curtains.
In the master bedroom we can notice the Bee's wax in a glass sandwich over the bed
as symbol of protest against the extinction of the bees and sign of rebellion against the humanity over the nature.
In his private studio we used the foresso material in order to highlight the potentiality of
a waste such as wood chips and elevating this material that in this case is able to create a private dimension for the shipowner during his moment of reflection and work.
As designers we used symbols such as the hexagons in the outdoor rooftop of the upper deck and in the bathrooms to recall the topic of the bee's species extinction in order to delivery an important message to the people on board regarding the importance of the micro-environment as well as the macro-environment in which we live.
