The Stepford Wives project // vol. 1

The term “Stepford Wife” is used to describe a woman who lives a blindly conforming life, remaining subservient to her husband and other authority figures while attempting to offend no one.

As a school project I got the task to create an alternative poster for a movie and another for its remake. I chose The Stepford Wives (1st release in 1975; remake in 2004) because its topic, which is still relevant today - it gives us a good occasion to think and talk about gender roles and situation of women/men today.

Housewives project vol. 1

1975 version is about a small suburb where the women happily go about their housework - cleaning, doing laundry, and cooking gourmet meals - to please their husbands. And, of course, they are devastatingly attractive. As it is shortly discovered, the village's wives have been replaced with robots by their husbands.

I used the visual elements of IKEA instruction sheets and clothing labels referring to the objectification of women.
