Fibra

FIBRA was a proposal for a design contest in Portugal that promoted the use of invasive or abundant plants from Azores archipelago. The idea was to use biodegradable natural materials for a toothbrush design. Hedychium gardnerianum (invasive plant) and pineapple leaves (very abundant) are the choosen materials for this proposal that has a contemporary approach that aims to be differentiated from the existing offer on the market not only due the choice of the materials but also to its shape.

The basic idea is to create a brush whose filaments are made of pineapple fiber and the handle is made of composite material with a biopolymeric matrix (biodegradable) with fiber reinforcement.

From a formal point of view it is designed to remain upright while not in use what allows a correct drying of the filaments, avoiding the accumulation of germs.

The conical shape creates a distinctive silhouette where ergonomic details such as the frontal cut are also thought out.

The low center of mass makes it easy to set the brush upright and not need to use a cup.

FIBRA is a simple, attractive brush that aims to be accessible.

The disposable object is now seen as an object of personal value and as a conscious act of respect for the environment.
