The Sunshine State
For my semester project, I created a series of zines that focused around visits to four of Florida's iconic landmarks: Saint Augustine, Blue Springs, Bok Tower, and the Florida Keys. Each zine is styled after a tourist brochure, and incorporates photography and drawings. Additionally, the zines tell of my visits to these landmarks. While I was going through difficult challenges at the time of the visits, I found that the positive memories I had always outweighed the negative ones. It is my hope that we can let go of any negative emotions that we might be having, and rediscover ourselves in the process.
Process
Many of the illustrations in The Sunshine State started out as hand drawn thumbnail sketches. These date from February to April 2020.
The typeface used for the project was Fisherman by Nurrehmet Studio.
