She tried and missed the part of Scarlett O’Hara. Finally, she achieved success at 37 with a radio version of her zany housewife act. But when she turned it into a TV show the studio rejected her acting along side her real life husband, because he was Cuban. So they took the show on a live tour to prove Hollywood wrong.

People see Lucy as effortlessly hilarious. That’s just the surface. She was the first woman to run a major television studio, retaining the rights to her show. She pioneered the use of the multi-camera set up. Her’s was the first show to be shot on film in front of a studio audience. So, she created the first sitcom. The genre that went on to dominate TV for 50 years. And she did all this with pie on her face. She found a way to be the boss and still laugh at her mistakes. When I take myself to seriously, I think of her and remember the joy of being silly.
