Pandemic in Istanbul
The 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic was confirmed to have spread to Turkey when its first case was officially confirmed on 11 March 2020. On 12 March, the government announced that schools and universities in Turkey will be closed.
The first death due to coronavirus disease in the country occurred on 17 March 2020. The Ministry of Interior announced a total curfew for those who are over the age 65 or chronically ill on 21 March. 
In the late hours of 10 April 2020, through an order issued by the 
Ministry of the Interior, curfews were declared in the 30 provinces with metropolitan status and Zonguldak, starting from 12:00 am on 11 April and lasting for 48 hours. On 16 April 2020, the Ministry of Health confirmed that the total number of cases increased to 74193 and that the death toll reached 1643.
