Tartu Smart Bike App

The Mobile app redesing project to check bike availability and rent it. Access a live map to find the closest station. Users can book and unlock the bike via the app.
Redesign & improvements
For me, as a user, it's only important to know where can I find a working bike. Find the bike is the main feature of this redesign project.
First, you can see bike availability by color (blue or red) on the landing page. Bike ready for service availability count is displayed at glance.

Current status
The users can see the stations, but not available bikes at the glance. Once the user has clicked the station, it shows the number of physically available bikes, but most of the time the available bikes shown in the app are not ready for service (out of order, bikes under 50% of the charge, etc).

Users end up clicking stations one by one to predict on which station is more likely to get the bike. Walking to the station to find out if the bikes ready for service is time consuming. The user must unlock the bike to find out if it is ready for service or not. It will take a while. This trial and error process can lead to repeat the process: walk to another station and repeat. It is hard to plan your trip.

Not returning customers
Once I visited four different stations, I spend more than an hour to find the working bike and in the end, I did not get any due all the stations were closed since 22:00. I took a taxi.
Redesign & improvements
Want to make sure that you will get the bike once you arrived at the station? You can book a bike. The booking will automatically expire after a short time (calculation based on walking distance) or cancelled manually by the user.

Cleaner look
Map color improvements were done based on the Google Maps color theme. Header opacity changed to make it more readable. Recommendations and bottom menu can be dismissed to make more room for the map.
