Book cover design (HG Wells titles)

Exercise: Book cover Design

The Brief -
Your brief is to design stunning and contemporary covers for one of the worlds most acclaimed authors; HG Wells.
Your challenge is to create 3 cover designs that work as a set and establish the books as timeless fiction. The books will be published in a paperback format and must include the tile, authors name and publishers name and trademark.

I chose the books:
The Time Machine
Ann Veronica
Tono Bungay

I like drawing by hand and decided to bring this element into my designs. I went about my designs more methodically by reading each of the books and picking out what might be seen as important but overlooked details within the story and making them part of the cover. The Time Machine - The 2 white flowers feature at the end of the story as a significant event. Ann Veronica - The dissected frog in the jar and the pirate flag to represent the start of the story. Tono Bungay - The miracle - cure - all potion that was the at the heart of all that was wrong with the times society.
All of the books work as a set in that they all feature a scientific element  that relates to the science fiction genre of the books. All covers feature scientific apparatus - the jars.
I wanted to use one colour for each title. A colour that might match the title:
yellow - dead flowers
Green - to match the frog
Purple - to represent luxury and wealth; what Tono Bungay was supposed to envision.
