Amazon Prime vs. Netflix:

-Why Amazon Prime Video is better than Netflix

Technology has greatly changed the way in which we shop, learn, work, and communicate with each other. Another thing that has revolutionized is the way we watch TV and consume content. Gone are the days when we tied to the TV and forced to sit through commercials. Now, we can stream content instantly to any device, whenever we want. When it comes to streaming TV online, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video are currently the most favorite services. And that’s why; Amazon Prime vs. Netflix is a hot topic these days.
When Amazon enters an industry, the competitors usually freak out. Whether its pharmaceuticals, groceries, cloud computing or just old-fashioned retail, Amazon has earned its reputation as a market leader. But in the streaming services industry, Amazon has so far faced direct competition with Netflix. Before moving forward, let’s have a look at the brief introduction of Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
Amazon Prime vs. Netflix – Introduction:
The story of Netflix started out in Scotts Valley, California, and at the time of incorporation, it was purely a website-based movie rental service. But with the passage of time, it has grown to become one of the world’s leading internet entertainment platforms. Today, it offers a wide range of films and TV series in over 190 countries around the world.
On the other hand, you may be surprised to know that Amazon Prime Video has also been around for a quite long time. Initially, it was launched on September 7, 2006, as Amazon Unbox. Later, it was renamed to Amazon Instant Video on Demand in 2008. After changing the name for few more times, Amazon seems to have settled on the name Amazon Prime Video. Over the course of these years, Amazon has also added a lot of new and improved features to its streaming service.
At first Amazon’s video strategy was to buy high-minded content that could win Hollywood awards. Under Roy Price, the former head of Amazon Studios, Amazon had some success with this strategy. ‘Transparent’ won the Golden Globe Award for best musical or comedy series in 2015 and ‘Manchester by the Sea’ won the Academy Award for the best original screenplay in 2017. But those hits still had relatively small audiences.
When Roy Price left Amazon in late 2017, Amazon’s CEO decided to replace him with Jennifer Salke, a broadcast TV veteran. Salke implemented new video strategy to look for content that can appeal to broader audiences. This better helped the company to bring more people into the Prime universe and keeping the ones that are already there. Amazon now has more than 75 million users in more than 200 countries, which is likely to increase to 100 million by the end of 2020.

Why Amazon Prime Video is better than Netflix?

As you can see, Amazon has its own Netflix alternative. Now it’s time to discuss does this has what it takes to compete with Netflix? In Amazon Prime vs. Netflix battle, you may be again surprised to learn that Amazon Prime is now better than Netflix in many respects, which overall makes it a far better option than any other streaming service. Here’s why.
Amazon Prime is cheaper than Netflix:
Amazon offers two main options for its Prime subscription. You can either choose a $119 annual subscription package or $13 per month for a monthly subscription. If you have and sign up with a valid student email address, then you’ll see a huge cut in the price and get an annual subscription for only $59. What’s more special is that Amazon Prime customers can use three screens at the same time in all the options.
Whereas, Netflix offers various subscription plans range from $9 to $16/month, depending upon the video quality and some other options. Netflix charges $9/month for the basic package in which you’ll get SD resolution and can only stream on one device at a time. Moving up to Standard plan will cost you $13/month for two streams and both are available in HD resolution. The premium plan lets four devices watch at the same time, and you can stream content in 4K Ultra HD for $16/month.
Even Netflix’s most affordable Basic price plan ($9 × 12 = $108) is almost the same as Amazon Prime Video Annual subscription in which you have access to the complete features and can use three screens at the time. So, in Amazon Prime vs. Netflix price comparison, Amazon Prime is the clear winner here.
