My.metso.com is a portal for Metso sales and distributors on a global scale. During piloting, user feedback from the most potential market area revealed that the service was not efficient enough to support their work. Due to this challenge, Metso called for service and user experience specialists to investigate the reasons for that and translate their understanding into a visible solution. The beginning of the project was to redesign the whole user experience of the portal to best support B2B and the needs of this target group. The complexity of the service user group, market areas, and business units required constant creation of concepts. The following steps of the project involved the communication of the solution’s big picture and the finest details to all 40 project‘s stakeholders, the support of specifications and the prioritization of the features during PI planning, and the implementation assistance.
During the design process, my tasks included mapping the current state of the user experience, planning and conducting interviews with potential users, identifying pain points, needs, wishes, and areas of improvement, translating the insights into interactive concept prototypes, planning and conducting user testing, refining the concept, and supporting implementation all the way to piloting and ongoing feedback gathering and analysis. Each concept prototype was designed in co-creation workshops with designers, leading developers, architects, business analysts, and the customer. My role in these workshops was to plan and facilitate them in order to create a shared view of the user's needs while ideating. The concept prototyped was refined after rounds of user testing and used as a supportive material for internal communication and feature specification. It was also part of my responsibility to lead the design work and to assist the Agile program management.
