Abstract Wall

Abstract Wall
Year: 2013
Place: Garage Museum of Contemporary Art
While creating this project, we were inspired by the works of abstract artists in the beginning of XX century. Abstract Wall project lies between advance-guard art, modern dance and digital interactive technologies. The main idea for the installation was the quotation of Wassili Kandinsky, who called the artist as a “hand” which make human soul vibrate. Modern technologies enabled us to make the artist be the brush, and the screen be interactive canvas. Silhouettes and movements, expressions and shades generate forms and colors and create digital abstractions. The event started with dancing performance, and after that the installation was operating during all the event. Two musical tracks were specially created for the performance and for background music.

That performance installation was also demonstrated in the frame of Digital Weekend Exhibition, Troika Multispace, Moscow, 2013.

Technical Description:
Each visitor could create an abstract image and get in printed. We developed special software, which enabled to use several depth cameras (Kinect or Asus Xtion) and to combine into unique image. That gave us an opportunity to make large-scale interactive screen – 12 meters width and 4 meters height. And it was not the at the breaking point.
The program provides large quantity of parameters and презетов for switching to different drawing effects. Switching of presets is also possible in two modes: automatically or in manual mode with the help of consol panel. The possibility to save images in high definition for further printing is also available.

Conventional Rider:
computer for cameras processing,
