BACKGROUND
Osteoarthritis (OA) is the 5th most common disability in the world, affecting an estimated 10 percent of the world’s population over the age of 60.
Living with this condition means having episodes of severe joint pain and loss of motion. The unpredictability of these flare-ups can adversely affect one's quality of life and, for some, their livelihood.

How can we help those with OA reduce the impact that joint pain has on their lives?
IDEA - THE OSTEOALERT
Based on research showing how a change in weather variables can cause an increase in joint pain, we want to build a predictive platform that forecasts the likelihood of joint pain flare-up for those with OA.
To do this, we will leverage meteorological data such as temperature and barometric pressure based on the user's location. Mapping this data to a proprietary algorithm enables us to create an accurate forecast system based on when there will be a drop in weather variables.
