RainMan, an app that can count!

A project in collaboration with IBM and Business Academy Aarhus - RainMan an app that counts.

Store inventory! A task dreaded by most of retail employees. It takes time, it is boring and sometimes they get it wrong. We live in a society where technology helped solve the majority of problems, automizing almost all the boring and menial tasks. However, store inventory has still not received its 2.0 update, meaning that most retail businesses still use the yellow legal pad and a pencil in order to count the store inventory. This task is very expensive for the stores, some of them need to close down for an entire week, plus the employees often miscount items, leading to a lot of confusion, frustration and an additional waste of time and resources.
My team and I, therefore, decided to try to solve this problem for retail businesses through the help of the IBM technologies, more specifically Artificial Intelligence.

My team and I created an app, powered by IBM’s Visual Recognition, which allows retail store’s employees to count the shop’s inventory more quickly, and with a much smaller chance of human error. The app's software is able to recognise and count all the different store products and add the final count to the store's spreadsheet.
The benefits, as shown above, are multiple for both the employees and the companies.
A faster, more accurate and integrated system that reduces mistakes, speeds up inventory count and saves money and man power for the companies.
