Krupina city is historically one of the most significant cities in Slovakia. One can say, it is a jewel, or
a diamond among the other cities. Unfortunately, during last centuries it has lost it´s glamour. Aim of the bachelor thesis was to redesign the main public space in the city, the Holy Trinity Square.
The name of the project “Cubic zirconia” was inspired by synthetically produced substitution for real diamonds thus it metaphorically substitutes the lost glamour of the place using architectural tools.
The main motive of the design is a square shape. These squares are arranged in a regular grid, which has become distorted, indicating the diagonal movement of pedestrians. The square can accomodate various seasonal proggrames such as cultural events, funfairs, free time activities, christmass market with ice skating ect. The design of the street furniture is ascetic, to promote medieval character of the place.
