Minority Representation in Film

Minority Representation in Film
Inspired by the article Seeing is Believing: Why Representation in the Cinematic World Matters, I created an expandable film camera that incorporates a portion of the article which goes into detail about whitewashing, the lack of recognition and opportunity, as well as phycological and social ramifications. The design concept can be interpreted in two different ways, the first is that the expanded portion represents all the challenges minorities have to go through to get represented in the industry. The second represents how minorities are able to “expand the lens”, by drawing from their own experiences. This piece was created with the intention for the viewer to interact with it.
