The herb envelope is a project I developed with my team of 4 students during my minor of Sustainable Packaging Design. The envelope was developed as a packaging for all fresh herbs to be sold in retail. The concept allows to keep the herbs fresh more than 3 times as long as current packaging. The design of the envelope still presents the herbs while also proving enough space for producers and retailers to add important information
The final solution is an envelope like packaging with a window on the front. It allows the consumer to see the product when purchasing it as well as checking on it in the fridge without having to open it. The envelope allows for the retailer to place nutritional and production information as well as logos, storage instruction and tips for use on it. The materials are kraft paper which can be printed on easily as well as a lamination inside. Before being packaged the herbs are watered which allows the to stay fresh longer. Due to the inside lamination the moisture is kept in the packaging hydrating the herbs for up to three weeks. The shape of the packaging makes for easy transportation and storage and can be adjusted to the needed sizes.
