MONOCHROME EXPERIMENT
This week I have been experimenting with some ink drawing in my favourite colour, blue. I used most of the blue ink containing materials that I have. It was interesting to see how each material was able to give different tones and feelings. Learning how to get the best outcome from each of them was a new challenge for me. I did experience some bleeding of colour when overlapping some of the inks but it was a fun exercise.
The materials I used were, a Faber Castell Pitted brush pen in sky blue, a Lamy fountain pen with a blue ink cartridge, a Pentel brush pen with blue ink ( my brush pen was is a bit damaged so I couldn't really get any clean strokes, but it seemed to turn out ok), and a Dip pen with some Windsor & Newton ink in cobalt blue (my favourite material so far).
The Dip pen with Windsor & Newton ink is fun to work with. From my experience it allows you to get some finer details and you can control the line weights by applying pressure to the dip pen. The challenge I found was that the paper I used was not as absorbent for the ink so it would take some time to draw without smudging. I also found that because one needs to apply pressure to the tip of the pen, it would often gather some fiber from the paper in the nib which can be irritating. However I usually use a smaller nib, so this nib is a bit more difficult to work with.
