A happy accident of sorts... That is what the project was. I was tasked to make an experimental layout
based on the introduction of "The Three Princes of Sarendip" by Michele Tramezzino, as well as being serendipitous itself. There were only two rules:
It had to include the whole introduction and any illustration had to be made through hand printing methods such as linocut.
Une sorte d'accident heureux... Le projet était comme ça. J'étais demandé de faire un ouvrage expérimental basé sur l'introduction des "Voyages des trois princes de Sarendip" de Michele Tramezzino, et cet ouvrage devait aussi mettre en oeuvre le principe de sérendipité.
Il n'y avait que deux contraintes: Il devait inclure la totalité de l'introduction et toute illustration devait être produite à partir de gravure.
I instinctively thought about making a deck of cards, which permitted such randomness that I could possibly achieve a serendipitous effect.
J'ai immédiatement pensé à faire un jeu de cartes, qui permettait un hasard ressemblant à la sérendipité.

The backs of the cards each contain a piece of the introduction, it can only be read by accidentally falling upon the right cards in the right order.

The kings, queens and jacks all present typical playing card illustrations with a twist, each have an element from the story.
