RIVERS IN THE SKY
In the magnificent Amazon, it is said one tree releases enough water every day to lend the cooling effect of two air conditioners. Every tree sucks water from the ground and releases vapour into the atmosphere in a process called transpiration, creating literal ‘rivers in the sky’ which descend as rain over thousands of acres of land. This rain is what sustains us, feeds us and keeps us alive. With every tree we burn or cut, we snatch a little more of this life-saving rain from the planet.
The Amazon rainforest is thousands of miles away from us, but its green cover keeps global temperatures in balance. In the last 50 years, however, humans have destroyed nearly 20 percent of this green cover.
Let this ecosystem be a glimpse into the disappearing forests, the disappearing droplets, the disappearing life from our planet. The translucent strips on the glass table represent Aru, the beautiful mist which covers the Amazon Rainforest, protecting and guiding the life within.
