Schick Shadel Hospital is an alcohol and drug treatment/detox hospital in Seattle, Washington. The hospital has been operating since 1935 when Charles Shadel originally opened up its doors in his mansion.
When Weinberg Marketing hired me to design and develop Schick Shadel Hospital's new website, I was thrilled. Mostly because I could become part of a project that not only would be fun, but would in the end help people live a better life.
Schick Shadel Hospital already had a current website (and many others before it), and they really wanted to have a fresh facelift especially in light of the new owners, Universal Health Services (UHS).
The main concern with their current website was that it was dark and almost depressing to look at (see their previous website below). The new website requirements were that it should be uplifting and hopeful (especially since they are in the business of giving people a second chance in life).

The new website requirements that Schick Shadel Hospital had at the top of their list included:
+ More hopeful and uplifting
+ Make it easy for visitors to engage and find the information they need
+ Having contact information readily available to visitors no matter where they are
Their technical requirements included:
+ Build the website responsively, to be easily viewed on the majority of devices (mobile, tablet, desktop) —it's now viewable down to IE6
+ The website should be easy enough for staff to update —the new website was built on WordPress
+ It should load quickly for visitors
+ Use of best web practices

Inner Pages
The majority of inner pages consist of a tabular approach that allows the user to easily find the information they came for. This has helped keep the navigation as simple as possible, allowing for only one level in the drop down menu.
Contact Page
The most important part of this website is to allow the visitor to easily contact the hospital. This also includes finding directions, sending an email, and picking up the phone to talk to a counselor.
Calendar of Events / Bulletin Board
Another feature that Schick Shadel wanted was a place where alumni of the hospital could partake in events with other alumni after their treatment. There is also a place for bulletin board posts so that the hospital can stay in contact with alumni.

Figures
Schick Shadel also had some outdated figures that they were using for educational purposes to make addiction and it's effects easy to understand. I created four new figures for use on their website.
