Sense of Place project

This project was to select an urban or country landscape with a focus on giving the viewer a photographic sense of being there. Toward this end, avoiding people or animals would help not allowing them to dominate the focus on the landscape. The two images could be in the same category but show different scenes. The project was designed to teach the black and white zone system in which all the 11 (0-10) different black and white luminance levels were to be represented in each photo. Although the project featured these black and white photographs, I have also included the color versions but the minor adjustments for the color and black and white were different to bring out the most detail and feeling for each. I chose the country category and selected a small lake in an Indiana state park that was so placid and idyllic it, to me, was as calming as it was mesmerizing. I shot it from a small pedestrian bridge that was over a small creek leading to it with trees framing it on either side. The second picture was of a special tree that I caught at just the right time in the morning to showcase the sun gleaming behind the trunk in the upper most part of the tree and spectacular shadows being cast from the branches on the ground.
